Welcome to the New Year!

Now that we've recovered from all the holiday revelries, it's time to take on the new year with renewed gusto. The new year always seems to come with unique challenges, and this year, doubly so.

Live Oak is here to see to it that your business' email and hosting operations continue uninterrupted and with the same quality technical and customer support that you've grown accustomed to.

The 2009 Live Oak Customer Survey

Rather than send our January survey out in July (as we did last year), we've decided to do it on time this year.

Starting today, January 26th, you'll get the first of 3 invitations to share your opinions, feedback, and ideas with us. As soon as you respond to the survey, you'll stop getting reminders. We send out 3 reminders because we know everyone is busy, on vacation, or just plain forgets. The survey takes just a few minutes but is incredibly helpful as we make changes to our plans, identify and invest in new services, and most importantly, find out how we can help your organization grow and flourish. 

What do we do with this info?  Based on the survey results from last July, we launched five new or improved services to address the top five needs you identified!  We are listening and your feedback is so important.

Email Password Security

Live Oak tries hard to keep our servers secure from hackers and spammers, but we are not able to oversee the passwords that you select for your log-ins and email.  Security is a mutual agreement by everyone to all do our part to keep our world secure.

Mailboxes are sometimes compromised by spammers able to guess your email passwords. Bear in mind that if your email address gets compromised, you run the risk of exceeding your bandwidth, which can cost you or your company over-limit fees.  An experienced mailbox hacker can compromise your weak password in minutes and send tens of thousands of emails within hours - usually while you're asleep - causing you to wake up to a backlash of havoc.

The most common guessable passwords are:

123abc
abc123
12345
54321
password
nopassword

However, they can also include words available in any standard dictionary. If you or any of your domain’s users have selected passwords that fit into this category, we recommend updating your passwords to something more secure.

The key is to create a password that you can easily remember, but is hard for someone else to guess. Below are some simple tips on creating more secure passwords for all our users.

Use a combination of the above methods and you should end up with several secure passwords to thwart pesky hackers and spammers and save yourself a lot of frustration and unnecessary cost.
